Waterloo Quarter BID launches second weekly collection.
Hundreds of businesses will be able to further boost their green credentials and potentially save money when a second weekly recycling collection is introduced by the Waterloo Quarter BID team. From Thursday, August 19, businesses within the Waterloo Quarter area will have the opportunity to leave out recyclable waste for collection on Thursdays as well as on Tuesdays. So far 184 businesses are taking advantage of existing free-of-charge Waterloo Quarter BID recycling collections of paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and cans, which take place between 3pm and 5pm. The new Thursday collections will also take place between 3pm and 5pm. The decision to introduce the second pick-up was taken after the Tuesday collection proved so successful it reached capacity. An annual recycling survey of local businesses, which helps the BID team continually improve its services, also indicated a second collection was desirable. Many businesses are already saving hundreds of pounds annually because the recycling scheme allows them to dispose of commercial waste in a cost effective way. Waterloo Quarter BID environment and public realm project manager Katie Lindsay said: “Our businesses can already be hugely proud of the amount they recycle, and this free scheme will make it easier for them to dispose of their waste responsibly while saving even more money at the same time.” Existing recycling scheme members do not need to take any further action to use the Thursday collections, apart from leaving their waste on their designated spot at the allotted time. New businesses wishing to take advantage of the recycling collections should contact Maris Puks on mpuks@waterlooquarter.org or 020 7620 1201. ** Are you paying too much for your general waste collections? Did you know Waterloo Quarter BID also provides a zero-to-landfill general waste collection service for just £1 per bag?
