Our Waterloo

Welcome to Our Waterloo!

Our Waterloo aims to build relationships between local businesses, charities and community groups.  Find out more about how you can get involved, whether as an organisation or individual.

Giving Bulletin

Download here the first of our quarterly bulletins filled with ideas of how you can help out local good causes, whether by volunteering, one off opportunities, through a team away day or by donating useful stuff. Examples include:

  • Reading with children at Johanna Primary, Oasis Academy
  • Recording special events either through photography or film at the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education
  • Joining the Kids Company volunteer pool for help with days out or special event
  • Hosting a business visit for local young people, taking part in the Southside Young Leaders Academy
  • Donating your second hand clothes to Webber Street Homelessness Day Centre.

Supporting employee volunteering

Employee volunteering not only benefits the community, but can also boost your staff retention, motivation and productivity. You don’t have to have a dedicated member of staff to experience these benefits! Waterloo Quarter can help you set up an effective volunteering policy and put in you touch with local groups that would like to partner with you.

  • Download the WQBID Volunteering Policy template here to get started
  • Contact us to find out about the latest local volunteering opportunities

In kind brokerage

There are a wealth of services and skills on offer in Waterloo. Many of these could be invaluable to local charities or community groups if offered free of charge or at a discounted rate. Some examples include meeting room hire, design and print support or even food! Do you have a product or service that you’d like to offer? Waterloo Quarter is able to match offers with suitable recipients.

Team Challenge Project

WQBID organises a once a year opportunity to work in mixed business and charity teams to create a lasting legacy for the wider community.

2011:  Christmas Gift Tree Challenge
Three teams worked together to collect as many pledges as possible for the charity partner. The three teams were:
• Metro Safety and Interhealth  (Winner)
• Spectrecom and The Fostering Network
• Solar Century and Groundwork

The winning team was presented with the Waterloo Quarter Community Award 2011 at the Waterloo Quarter Annual Party on 24 November 2011. You can see a report of the event and all the pledges collected here.

2010 ‘Business in the Big Top’
Four teams competed to raise the most money with their circus themed stall on Emma Cons Gardens in November 2010.

Waterloo Community Events

WQBID works with local community organisations on a number of events. A good example is The Waterloo Carnival. This year WQBID worked with local employee volunteers to help prepare for this colourful celebration and to boost local employer involvement. Find out more about the Waterloo Carnival here.
