April 2008 saw the launch of the Wedge Card @ Waterloo Quarter scheme. Teaming up with Lower Marsh based organisation, Wedge Card, the BID introduced a Waterloo Quarter branded reward card to encourage local workers and residents to make the most of the shops, bars, restaurants and cafes in the area. The Wedge Card scheme aims to build loyalty to local independent shops by offering rewards to cardholders. The rewards can be anything, varying from 10% off, to a free bag of crisps when you buy a sandwich.
Waterloo Quarter distributed 5,000 of the branded cards across the local area, directly to the larger employers in the area as part of the Waterloo goodie bags, as well as through on street handouts. A Shop Local event was organised featuring a range of special offers at participating businesses as well as stalls handing out cakes and goodies to encourage people to sign up.
